RH8 - Publishing Merged Projects with AIR Browserbased Help

New Here ,
Jan 11, 2010 Jan 11, 2010

Hello,

i have one master project with 5 subprojects. When i make an Output with Adobe Air "Browserbased Help" is the preview ok, all tables of Content from all projects are included.

When i publish it to our webserver i first got a grey screen with an loading error.

I discovered that the link in the start site  to the included file ac_oetags.js is incorrect because of upper and lower case writing. When i change the link, the site appeared correctly - but unfortunately only with the table of content of the main project.

Is it possible to merge Projects with Browserbased Help?

Has anybody an idea what went wrong?

Thanks for your support!

Steffan

Yes you can merge browser based air help. It is done in the same way as merged webhelp which is covered on my site. You don't say if you are familiar with merging webhelp and it is just air help that is new.

Hello Peter,

thanks for your repley!

Webhelp

Before i tried the output with AIR browserbased help i had always the output with webhelp. I had no problems there with merging my projects. All tables of content were shown there.

I have no idea why this not work in AIR browserbased help. In the preview all looks fine, but after publishing to the webserver is unfortunately only the one of the masterproject left.

I have to publish the subprojects in the folder .../!SSL!/Adobe_Air/BrowserBasedHelp/mergedProjects/Name_of_subproject! After i have published all subprojects on my local drive i publish the master project to the webserver! I do the same as by output normal webhelp!

Can you help me?

Thanks!

You don't have to publish to any pre-determined location. You can decide where to generate and publish.

You need to be generating and publishing to the "one" location by which I mean the child projects should be directed to the mergedProject folder created in the SSL folder of the parent. I suspect you are sending each child to its own SSL folder.

See the merged help articles on my site.

Hello,

thanks for your help.

In the Sub-Projects i choose in the first side of the airoutput menue the sub folder of the main project.

When i finally publish the main project and i watch the preview everything is fine, but when i then open it from the webserver it is broken and i got first only a grey side.

I can correct then the writing of the linked file in lowercase, then the side opened.

Have you any idea what went here wrong?

Thanks!

Steffan

Sorry but I am not following you. When you generate the help you specify a folder for the generated output and a folder on the server for published output. If you look using Windows Explorer, are you seeing the same folders and contents in both locations?

In the sub projects i choose in the airoutput options on the first side the sub folder of the main project on my local drive. On the last side of the airoutput is no server choosen for publishing the sub projects.

In the main project is on the last side the output path to our webserver choosen.

The folders and content of my subprojects are on the server in the folder mergedProjects/name_of_sub/, but no Table of content of the subprojects are seen.

Thanks!

air_publlish.jpg

In the Start Page field you define where you want to generate the help.

If you click the Server settings you define where you want to publish.

wizard_server.jpg

When you publish the parent it goes to \\servername\myrobohelp and it creates a folder called mergedProjects and subfolders for each child.

When you publish the children, your Server setting must point to those subfolders.

Does that clarify? If not, please add some screenshot using the camera icon so that the images are in the post as above.

Hi Peter,

Unless I select "Browser based Help" or "AIR and Browser based Help" the Server setting is grayed out. The mergedProjects folder is then in the BroswerBasedHelp folder.

  1. Should I publish AIR child files into the WebHelp Merged Projects folder?
  2. In the Parent project, I am unable to associate the Child Merged Project with an AIR file. The "FlashHelp/WebHelp/AdobeAIR" tab only looks for project files: .xpj, .mpj (see attached screenshot).

Thanks,

Lydia

The server setting is only for browser AIR help. There are articles on my site that explain the settings. I'm not following why you expect to see a server setting for desktop AIR help. It is going to be installed locally so no server is involved.

Merging browser AIR help is done in the same way as merging webhelp, the latter is also covered on my site. I haven't looked at merging desktop AIR help. If and when I do, I will start by setting it up in the same way as merging CHMs.

Hi Peter,

I've been trying to figure out how to merge desktop AIR help.

Can you elaborate on how you might merge destop AIR help in the similar way of merging CHMs? I'll also look at your super-thorough site for tips as well.

Lydia
