RoboHelp 2017 Crashes, No Topics When Reopened

This has happened twice in the last few days.

RH crashes. When I reopen RH, none of the topics that had been open are now open as they usually are. In addition, each entry in the TOC has a red X on it because...no topics appear in the Project Manager pod. Windows Explorer displays the topics and I can open them from there (thank goodness) but, no matter how I open RH, I get the same empty folder where my topics should appear. When it happened the first time. I found that I was running 2 instances of RH: one had topics and one did not. This time that is not the case. I've tried closing and reopening RH but to no avail. Is there a file that I could replace from a backup copy of the project? If so, which one(s)?

Help!

Have you tried deleting or renaming the project's CPD file?

After doing some more research I saw that suggestion so I'm about to do that now. I'll let you know if that does it.

Yes, that did it! Thank you for responding so quickly.

Now, I'm wondering, "Why? Why did this suddenly start happening and what can I do to stop it?"

Where is your project located? Is there any Source Control at play here? RH is happiest dealing with files in a c:\projects\project_name\ directory structure - nice & short & local to the programs.

The project is on my hard drive and there is no source control involved.

It's at C:\...\My Documents\<project name>\*.xpj.

Should the project name have underscores between the words?

or dashes, blank spaces are usually undesirable. Also, in some installs, even your "My Documents" folder may be a network location - it can also get quite long a path length too...

You can set RoboHelp to automatically delete the CPD file before opening a

project. See Opening Projects on my site to learn more.
