Robohelp 2022 - Font Size in Style is not being reflected in the topic - even though the style is

Is there a way in RH to quickly see what size font something is?  I’m asking for the equivalent of, like in any other program, if you highlight text and look up at the toolbar, you can see what size font that text is in?  I know that I can click on the source button and read the code, but unfortunately, I’m finding that even though I have a style applied to the text, it’s not reading the right font from the style.  I have removed the formatting and removed the in-line formatting and applied the correct style, but I can tell that it’s being overwritten by something bc the font size is CLEARLY not the size of the font in the style.  I can’t seem to find a way to confirm for 100% what the font size displayed is.  Where can I find that information in Robohelp 2022.  It would actually helpful to be able to look at something and read what font the text is in also.  Same issue, even though the style is applied and the text shows that it is formatted with a specific style - the font isn't what the style calls for in addition to the font size. is clearly wrong.  I would like a visual toolbar or something that tells me exactly what font and what size highlighted text is.

RH Classic used to have that on the toolbar, but I don't know if it survived in RH New UI. Anything in the View menu to turn on?

What is applied by the CSS can be seen by hovering over it in the Styles pod.

Beyond that some inline styling must be kicking in. For that you will need to look in source view to see what is overriding the CSS.

Hi Peter.  Yes - I've done that.  It doesn't help me see what I'm needing to see.  the difference in font size between a 14pt and 11pt is large enough that my eye can tell when it is or isn't correct.  But the difference between 12pt and 11pt is so minor that if I'm wanting to double-check to make sure that it is in fact an 11 not a 12 (because it's so inconsistent), and it doesn't show anything in the source other than the style that is applied but it's clearly a font larger than what that style calls for.  Thes are documents imported from Word.  I strip the formatting and then apply the RH styles and immediately , text starts displaying in fonts or sizes that I KNOW are not what the RH style is set to even colors sometimes are not right.  I found bookmarks to be a cause of some of this, but not always.  Our Note style shows Note in 12 pt bold and the text for the note is to be 11pt not bold.  I am trying to be able to confirm font size consistency on my pages and it's really really hard.  I don't trust anything anymore with these pages.   It's ok.   I figured I would have found it by now if there was something that would allow me to see exactly what the font size is of the selected text.   Thank you for your response.

I've also needed to confirm exactly what font size is being used. Headings were sometimes looking very strange. I did this by outputing to PDF (Word would work too), then opening the output in Exchange, highlight the heading, and seeing what Exchange says the font size is (this might require Acrobat Pro to work, I'm not sure).

RoboHelp is essentially an XML editor, and in XML, font size is only governed in the styles (or in overrides in the file source). The truth is that you can't trust WYSIWYG XML editors very much, and I find RoboHelp's to be particuarly untrustworthy. The only way to really tell what font is being used, is to look at the output you are going to deliver the documentation in, and see if the font there conforms to your expectations.

Nothing prevents you from applying colours / other visual indicators to your classes (purple for font size 11px, orange for font size 12px etc.). You then just ignore or overwrite those changes in the output CSS.

For example, I slap light red background CSS to all content that should not be translated (RH provides 0 indication if a given sentence is marked as no-translate).

[translate="no"] {
background-color: rgba(255, 0, 0, 0.1) !important;
}

@WoutJacobs I think you are suggesting that in all styles you apply a coloured background where the colour is for a font size. So if <p> and <h4>, for example, are 10pt, they are coloured say blue. I'm not seeing how that would identify some inline styling that has set a few words to say 11pt.

I think I am misunderstanding you but can't see how.

@WoutJacobs You have upvoted this post to indicate it is useful but it is a question rather than helpful in solving the original question. Are  you saying your suggestion would not highlight inline font size differences?

Just a shorthand for agreeing as I lacked time for a reply.

On closer reading I believe OP wants a Word-style visualisation, I was kind of assuming an error debugging kind of visualisation.

Thanks @WoutJacobs. I had wondered if that was shorthand for saying I was correct.

@JenniR_12 In Project Settings > General there is a Do Not Allow Inline Formatting setting. I don't know how that would work with importing or existing inline formatting but it's worth experimenting in a copy of your project. Do not try it in the live project until you are certain it has no unwanted effects. It's quite possible elsewhere you have applied inline formatting for good reason.

All very good suggestions and ones I hadn't thought of.   I'm going to see if I can use one of these to help me see what I need to be seeing.  Thank you all for the great feedback on  a random question 🙂
