If I go to File -> Version Control -> Add to Version Control it only has SourceSafe and RoboSource Control on the list does this mean that it will only work with those two types of source control? or is there a way to get it to work with Team Foundation Server?

You need to install the Microsoft Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider application. A search on microsoft.com should turn up the latest version.
