Robohelp is unable to start Microsoft Word - one more time

Guest

Hello,

I read the previous post on this error and though the message is the same, I do not think the circumstances are.

I am using xp prof, office 2010 (recently installed), and after that I recently d/l Robohelp 9 from the website.

I am having many problems involving this message, but I set out today to get the simplest problem i could.

So, i opened RH 9 from the start menu/all programs. I selected 'new project' and filled in the title and file name (project2_title, project2_file)

The RH explorer opens.  Word 2010 opens.  The RH explorer still has an hourglass.  After 1-2 minutes, the hourglass is gone and the error message 'Robohelp is unable to start Microsoft Word' appears.

I click 'ok'

Hourglass, blanked out RH explorer which eventually does return.

I click ctrl_t for a new topic, get the dialog, accept the defaults,  and eventually the hour glass goes away and I have the same error message.

I click ok and i do not have the new topic when i expand the topic list.

When i first started this, i was able to add a topic, but no longer. (last week was when i started).

I have also tried to open the existing topic that was created using rh7 and having opened it, tried generating primary layout.  I got an error file with an error for almost every topic. (But this can be the next problem).

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Miriam

I am not a RoboHelp for Word user but try this.

Open RoboHelp for Word without opening a project - just click Cancel when the project dialog appears.

Go to Tools > Options and look at the General tab. What version of Word is showing there? It needs to be 2010.

Also did you have admin rights when installing?

That looked so promising, but, it says word 2010

And, yes to admin rights.

In Word, is macro security set to low?

It needs to be.

Hi,

And thanks for continuing to think about this problem.

I found 4 choices for macros. I was set for 'disable with notification'. I

changed it to 'enable'.

Went back, opened robohelp, picked one of my practice projects and the same

thing happened - word opened and then after some time i got the error

message.

As I said, it needs to be set to low.

isn't that low? 'enable' - that was the least secure choice. Am I looking

in the wrong place?

Yes you have the right setting, I was expecting the word Low but I just checked and you have set the required option.

Is your normal.dot on your PC or have IT got it on a network drive?

I'm about to log off but post back with the answer and I'll see if I can come up with anything else.

normal.dot is local.

(and I also checked the vb box below the macro choices)

Although this link relates to an older version, it might still be worth looking into.

I have this file in the startup folder for robohelp9 and also 7. Do you

think the fact that they are both there is causing a problem? (it is two

different directories)

You didn't say you had two version of RoboHelp for Word installed. You cannot do that and it is probably the cause of this problem.

Uninstall both and install only RoboHelp 9.

Hello Miriam Schneidmill,

You can try this workaround.

First of all close Robohelp Word

Go to    C:\Users\Username\AppData\Microsoft\Templates

and look for RoboHELP.dot and just rename that file extension to old, ggod or anything you wish, say Robohelp.bad.

Then close this.

Now try to open Robohelp Word and see are you facing the same issue or not?

Hope it helps!!!

Thank you

Thank you so much for the reply.

I am going to uninstall both versions and then reinstall. And then, if that

doesn't fix it, I will try this.

LATEST

this one was the trick. i uninstalled both versions and then installed 9

and did whatever else had been suggested with no luck. but this one did it.

I renamed robohelp.dot and so far, i have not gotten that error again.

Thank you both for your help.
