Serialization Error?

Guest

Hello,

Just trying to install RoboSource Control 3.1 - seemingly I have the database set up correctly on the "Server" (a Windows Xp Pro machine on our SBS 2003 server). When I try to open the database - rather when I try to add a project to source control it throws up an error "Serialization Error". I searched (not too hard) for information on this subject in the knowledge base and couldn't find anything. The one thing I haven't tried yet is moving or creating the database on the C: drive - I have a much larger secondary hard drive on the server I intended on installing this database - can I not do that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks
Ryan Hudson

Let me say first that I don't know anything about the error message you got. However, it might be a good idea to make sure the basics are covered. Did you...
1. Install both RoboSource Control Server and Client on your server? (I don't remember if you have to select both of these during the install or not.)
2. Create a database using the RoboSource Server Database Configuration tool?
3. Attempt to open the new database using RoboSource Control Explorer?

Was there more after that, or did you run into the error somewhere within the steps above?

Thanks G,

I did just as you listed. It's when I try to connect to the server machine from another machine through RoboSource Control Explorer that I get this error.
Here's a link to the screen capture. Follow Me!

Thanks for looking!

Hmmm. When you set up your DB on the server, did you also set yourself up with a user profile in the User Library? RSC connections tend to hum along more smoothly if you set up your users in the User Library with their Windows network logons, selecting "Windows Authentication."

On the other hand, there might be a problem with the administrative profile/password used to connect from your RSC server to SQL. That needs to sync up with RSC as well. I forget the details, but we ended up creating a new administrative login to deal with this.

Does Adobe offer an initial setup support? I haven't called anyone yet but I'm nearing my witts ends with SourceControl. It may be a problem on my end but without help I cannot confirm that.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

I'm sorry, Ryan, but I'm afraid this goes beyond my expertise. Unless anyone else here has suggestions, you may need to contact Adobe Support.

Good luck - I hope you can find some answers so that you can at least give RSC3 some real run time. We seem to be doing OK with it so far.
