Setting Word/PDF paper size

Guest

How/where do you set the paper size for a PDF? I need to go from Letter to A4.

In the RH Printed Documentation wizard, the MS Word template is set to "(None) - Use the Project's CSS Styles".
As MS Word is being used to create the PDF through PDFMaker, I was assuming that the paper size in Word's normal.dot would be used.

So I changed the default page size in the nomal.dot to A4, but the resulting MS Word and consequently the PDF are still in letter format?

Can I assume this is also something being batch generated? You don't say but it makes a difference.

If you were letting RH create a document that you access, you could change it there. I think you are not and I am guessing that as all the topics are set to Letter size, that is where it is coming from, not normal.dot.

Try this. Generate to Word once Open that document and strip all the content and change the size to A4. Now save it as a template (.dot).

Regenerate but this time change the layout to point to that template. Might take a bit of tweaking but once set up, then your batch generation should work.

I was running the printed documentation wizard manually from within RH.

(Actually, the printed documentation is the ONLY step that I cannot generate in batch, because RH currently doesn't include an option to dynamically refresh/update the TOC :-)
I'm planning to submit a feature request to Adobe for this.)

I'm going to try your suggestions.

Thanks Peter.

BTW, did you ever take a look at WebDrive for publishing content?
It looks as if RH publisher doesn't support WebDav and this software associates drive letters to WebDav folders so that you can use the File System connection protocol in RH. Even better, WebDrive includes its own synchronization feature that will also delete old files from the remote server.

No, sorry I didn't. What's the reason for using WebDav that would interest RH users?

This sets the page size to A4, but as you already pointed out, you need to tweak the heading styles in the .dot file to match you project styles. The non-heading styles can be set to unassigned, s that the project styles are being used. Also, any future adjustments in RH heading styles need to be updated in MS Word template.

There must be some RH or Word setting that determines page size.
I'm currenlty working with a colleague on the same project under RoboSource Control. We have synchronized all of our MS Word and PDF settings.

When I generate the PDF, the document is in A4, when my colleague gnerates the document it's in letter.

The only difference in our configuration is that I'm using Acrobat 8 Pro, and my colleague is using the RH PDF add-on.

I just don't get it.

If you save the doc as a dot, it should save the styles as in the doc. I was expecting a bit of one off tweaking but not wholesale changes.

If you right click the PDF add-on in your list of printers, does that not give you additional options including page size? I use Acrobat on all machines so I cannot check.
