RH 8 has had severe performance problems with a particular Help Project for the past few days:
like 3 or 4 words behind my typing.
not even opening a topic if I click on it
not closing any of the open topics when I click the X in the topic tab
Today when it quit working altogether and sent a log file off to Adobe, I peeked into the content before it was sent. I'm using version 8.0.0.203
Further, a temp directory has 1.35 mb in 178 files all of which read lilo<7-digit number>, all of which were generated today. I know because yesterday I cleaned out my temp directories...including thousands(?) of lilo1515548 files, and today, with virtually no "work" accomplished (outside of publishing to a different server location), I have a whole new crop. The guts of these files is machine code (squiggles, with telltale references to ColdFusion, JobReady, RoboHelp,RoboInfo,FreeHand, FrameMaker,Homesite,LiveCycle,Flashcast,PostScript etc.). The only Adobe product I have installed* and am using is RoboHelp 8. It makes me wonder...what's going on with RH? Are there product updates I don't know about?
*except, of course Adobe Reader, but I'm not using that.
Does RH 8 'get sick' (I am working on a project I created with a try-b4-u-buy version of RH 7. Is this causing the hiccup?
I found PeterG's suggestion to add the BaseCSS_res.dll to my RH ...\RoboHTML\en_us folder. And that helped A LOT! But I want to know how to address the lilo files that are growing like cancer in my temp folders.
PS: I cross posted this because the first and only Adobe hit for 'lilo' was in the InDesign SDK. So I posted there first. But, since I'm not using that product nor doing SDK stuff, I'm adding this to the RH user group.

Have you tried taking a copy of the project's CPD file, deleting the original and then reopening the project?

I'm having a similar problem. I just upgraded to the Tech Comm Suite 2 from Robohelp x5 a few weeks ago. I converted a couple of projects as a 'test run,' but still have Robo x5 installed (good thing!). I have not been able to get much work done at all. Right now, I can't even open a topic. It hangs up immediately, and eventually shows the "Not Responding" message. I'm running this on a 64-bit machine.
I tried deleting the CPD file as suggested. Didn't help at all that I can see. Still hanging up.
Does anybody have any other ideas?
If I can't get Robo 8 to work, I'll have to stick with Robo x5 for the time being. What a waste! Especially after nagging my boss for over a year to get this upgrade.
Help!

This may not be of any use at all... I am only in RH7, but I had terrible issues upgrading to 6 and then 7 from RH5. The final resolution wasn't to try to repair any issues in the destination version, but instead, to do the clean up in RH5. So, I deleted the cpd file in that version, let it rebuild, and the upgrade to RH7 was absolutely perfect.
Again, not exactly the same situation, but maybe a new angle on the strategy would help.
Of course, make backups of everything before you do anything.

Hi there
Where are your projects when you are working on them? Have you applied the patches to version 8? (There have been two released)
If you say your projects are on a local area network drive, there's your issue. Move them to your local C drive and stand in awe of the speed improvement. (not to mention reliability)
Cheers... Rick

Rick,
Thanks for the reply. But, yes, my files are on my hard drive and I have installed both Robo 8 updates.

Hello again
You said you were also using X5? Are you using it on the 64 bit system?
How are you running RoboHelp 8? Have you configured the shortcut to run as an Administrator? What version of 64 bit are you runing? Vista/Windows 7 and what flavor (Professional/Home Premium/Ultimate)
Cheers... Rick

Rick,
I'm running Windows Professional XP with Office 2007 on a 64 bit machine. I just recently installed Office 2007 - about a month ago. I was using Office XP before that.
This is a company maintained PC and I am not allowed to be an Administrator on it, so I don't think I can do that shortcut you mention.
I have been using Robo x5 on this machine with virtually no problems. However, I have just today been having a problem with my See Also buttons not working in helpfiles I just recompiled (in x5). They are all hosed and I don't know why. But that is another issue.
I'm starting to think I will have to get the Techs to re-image my machine, but I'm dreading that. I have so many specialized apps on here that I will have to re-install.
I would really like to get going on Robo 8 because of all the new features. If only it would quit crashing on me all the time.

1] Did you purchase a full RH8 licence or an upgrade? I don't think this is the cause here but I have seen problems caused when the old copy was left on after an upgrade only was purchased.
2] You say you don't have admin rights. Was RH installed with admin rights? If not then it will not run properly. After installation, RH8 can run without admin rights but I am surprised you got X5 running without. It was always necessary to have admin rights for installation or use.
3] A quick Google on LILO files revealed this post about LILO files.
