TCS 5 RoboHelp and FrameMaker links work and then stop

New Here ,
Jul 10, 2014 Jul 10, 2014

Hi,

I installed TCS 5 after installing a trial of RoboHelp 11.  After I installed, I opened a project from TCS 4 and I was able to update an existing linked FM book and Link to new files.    The FM files were converted ot FM 12 and the RoboHelp project was converted to RoboHelp 11.

Now, when I reopen the RoboHelp project, I cannot update or link to FrameMaker documents.

I am running Windows 7. I run both RH and FM as administrator and I have owner permissions to the Adobe folder.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling TCS 5 and the behavior is consistent.  Is there some registry entry or something i should look for?

Lauren

Did you uninstall the RH11 trial before installing the TCS suite? The standalone versions do not have the "secret sauce" components that integrate the FM, RH and Captivate modules.

Robohelp 11 trial was uninstalled and I cleaned out the registry for Robohelp 11 items as best I could. The weird thing is the link is there and i can update when I first open the project and then the 2nd time I open the project, I can no longer do these things.

First my client, then I saw the exact same thing.

One day the project worked perfectly, then the next day the linking options were all unavailable. It's as if Rh decided it was no longer associating with Fm.

Oddly, another client team member was unaffected.

I'm trying to track down the issue. Did you resolve the linking problem?

After updating to 5.1, the Link menu command still shows FrameMaker grayed out as if it does not exist.

Does it have a RoboHelp menu item over in FM? There used to be a dll that TCS had that the standalone versions didn’t that sometimes needed to be added to your maker.ini to kick the linkage part to work, but I can’t remember what it was called or where it was hiding.

I do not see a RoboHelp menu in FM 12.

In my FM 11 maker.ini, in the API Clients area, I see RoboHelpPublish=Standard, Client for publishing help formats, fminit\RoboHelpPublish.dll, all

Yes, I saw that too in my FM10 & 11 installs – it wasn’t that one though – that does the direct publishing bit in FM. I need to check an old XP machine with TCS2 or 3.5 on it.

Were you thinking of:

RH4FMver9=Standard,RH4FMver9,C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Technical

Communication Suite 2\Adobe RoboHelp

8\RoboHTML\RHFrameMakerServer9.dll,all

Maybe – was that in the Program Files maker.ini or the User Profile one? I seem to remember having to add it to the User one to repair one of my upgrades one time.

But none of the later versions of FM that i have use something in the User maker.ini so it may not be a valid item anymore.
