Thumbnails and Collapsible images

RH 8.0.2

FM 9.0.3

Very slowly i am managing to discover through the Help available on this forum, answers to my questions which are mainly focussed on recreating some of the functionality that was straightforward in Webworks Pro. I was happy with that solution but the product is at the end of life and unsupported and it is our ocmpany policy to use only software which is supported.

I believed that Robohelp was a suitable contender for replacing that tool compared with the other tools on the market. I am disappointed however that some functionality which was fairly straightforward in WWP seems to be missing in RH.

In WWP the template can be set up to create and display thumbnails from the images in my linked FM files. When thumbnails are clicked, the full size image displays in a page of its own. All i need to do in the template is to specify the size i want thumbnails to be and some other bits of tweakiness for managing how the full size images are displayed. I don't know how to achive this or something like it with Robohelp.

I can settle for the DHTML dropdown option as a consolation so that images remain hidden. Figure captions display as active  links which display images when clicked. However, i would prefer something like the original WWP solution so that th euser get s a preview of what is avaialble without it taking up too much screen space, but at the same time, it is open and clear tot he user that such a pice of detail is available. It would be too much to manually maintain a thumbnail and a full size image in the document so an automated process as part of the project creation would be ideal.

If anyone is able to suggest a way to achieve this I would be most grateful?

TIA

Rob

Hi there

I believe RoboHelp 8 ships with a script you can launch to configure all images to a specific dimension. My thought here is that you could use the script to do just that and create the thumbnails. The only issue then would be to create links that open the images in a different window. That would seem to be easily possible. Maybe even by modifying the image sizing script.

Hopefully Praful Jain will see this post and come to your rescue. I believe Praful is one of the Adobe RoboHelp developers and has provided scripting solutions to other issues. I'll see if I can find one of the posts where Praful has offered a scripting solution and reply with a pointer to this post. Perhaps that will gain the attention needed here.

Cheers... Rick

Sorry but that script did not ship because setting all images in one project to the same size was likely to wreck a good few projects as it was not a reversible action.

Faststone offer two great free tools. One for viewing images and one for resizing. http://www.faststone.org/

Just make sure you have are working on copies while you play with it.
