TOC lacking books in generated layout/RH8

Hi there. Let me start by saying that I am not a computer whiz by your standards, I'm sure, so this may come across as a stupid question. Let me apologize in advance!

I have been working on a simple RoboHelp 8 document for my job, just a simple FAQ document, and by simple, I mean like maybe it will be 20-30 questions max, when all is said and done. While authoring the FAQ help document in RH8, my TOC looks like this:

TOC 1.GIF

However, after I generate my layout and look at the finished product, it looks like this:

TOC 2.GIF

Clearly the problem is with the books that are embedded into the main book--they disapper in the generated layout. My supervisor has requested the "sub"-books to add more organization to my questions. Is there any way to make them appear in the generated layout, or is there some reason why books within books will not generate?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Welcome to our community!

It appears that you simply inserted Books, right? The thing is, if a book has nothing inside of it, as you have seen, it will not appear in the output.

You might try linking a topic to the book, but what will happen is that RoboHelp will see that it's just a simple page and that's how it will appear in the ouptut.

There are probably some ways to fudge it, but they are a bit convoluted. Sorry, but I can't think of a simple workaround.

One thing I would definitely encourage you to do is to submit a Wish Form to ask Adobe to build the feature a bit so that you might achieve what you are after. Link to the Wish Form is in my sig.

Cheers... Rick

Hi Rick,

Thanks, you were right, I did simply insert books and I saw immediately how to fix the problem as soon as you said that. All I really needed to do to solve my problem was to move the topics that belong in each book actually IN the books as opposed to under them, as was what was the case when I simply inserted the books. Sometimes the obvious eludes me, what can I say? I just fixed it and it generates exactly how I need it to. Thanks a million, you saved me a headache, for sure.

Angie
