TOC question

I'm using Robo V8. I created a toc, generated webhelp, and the toc builds but all the books are expanded. I want the books to be closed with the expand option.  anyone know why this happened and how I can fix it?

Hi again

Wow, I've never known it NOT to be expanded when you choose the Section 508 option. That's one of the hallmarks of Section 508. Because of this I knew immediately you had that option selected by what you described.

I know you said you checked it many times before so I'm totally surprised that you never noticed the fully expanded TOC until now.

My guess is that if you never saw the TOC fully expanded before you didn't really have 508 enabled. Perhaps you thought you did, but it wasn't. Anot

Hi there

Likely it's because you selected the "Section 508" option when you generated.

Right-click the WebHelp layout and choose Properties. Ensure the Section 508 check box isn't selected.

See if that corrects the issue.

Cheers... Rick

yes that worked but I need to the 508 option. I work for the Veterans Affairs and the online help must be 508 compliant. Actually i've checked it many times before and this is the first time that I had this problem with the books expanded. any other ideas? thanks very much.

Hi again

I have no idea. I rather assume it is because in a 508 setup the user is most likely using a sceen reading application. Not sure how a screen reading application would sense a book that could be expanded.

Perhaps someone well versed with 508 could expound on that.

Hopefully you are aware that there are ways to have 508 compliance AND a skinned WebHelp. Both would involve creating two separate WebHelp outputs. One with 508 and one without. The one without might have a link that would then open the 508 version if needed. Or, the determination might be made at the application level. Somehow the application would sense 508 was needed and open that one instead.

Cheers... Rick
