Topic Hyperlinks in RoboHelp 7

New Here ,

Is there some way to create hyperlinks to topics within RoboHelp 7 for the WebHelp? I've been running into problems where trying to create a hyperlink to another topic or its related bookmark will create an external link to the help system (creating a url to the file). This help file will be used on multiple systems though and it doesn't display the hyperlinked page.

I recently upgraded from RoboHelp 5 to 7 and had used the exact same options to create hyperlinks but errors are occuring in 7.

Can anyone help? Has the manner in which to create hyperlinks for topics, changed? Thank you!

You're not working over a network, are you? If so, stop that!

If not, then note this: RH considers a topic as external if it has not been identified as belonging to the active RH project. And no, the manner in which to create hyperlinks has not changed.

Good luck,
Leon

Hey Leon,
This project is located in a server folder right now that others can have access to viewing the project as well as the resulting WebHelp. When this was done with RoboHelp 5 I never encountered any problems. How might there be a workaround?
Also, you had mentioned that the topic is external if it hasn't been identified as belonging to the active project. How can this be resolved? Thank you for the help!

This forum is littered with "I never encountered any problems" when users are told not to work over a network. There simply is no workaround to these RH basic precepts: you must install RH on your local machine with full administrator rights, and you must work your RH projects on your local machine.

I don't see the need to have source files on the server for "others" to have "access." However, if you must, then simply copy the project down to your machine whenever editing is required, and then copy the updated project back up to the server when you're done.

As to the "external topic" issue: unless you have created or imported a topic into (that is, within) the RH project, the project considers it as "external." Two things must be considered:

* Unless you add the topic (or any other file such as a .pdf, etc.) to the Baggage Files, the file will not be included in the output generation or the output publishing process.

* Unless the path in the source file's hyperlink is identical to the path's location in the output, it will not be found.

Good luck,
Leon
