Uninstall / Reinstall

Guest

Good morning everyone,

I find myself having to delete the rtf files or uninstall/reinstall Robohelp more often than I think I should have to in order to fix corrupt projects created with Robohelp for Word. I'm curious as to how often these fixes are used by other Robohelpers. If it is just a quirk, then I'll learn to live with it, and keep the aspirin bottle close; however, I'm wondering if I should be looking for the true culprit.

Have a great day,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer

You have my sympathy, but keep taking the aspirin. I have been using RoboHelp for Word since Blue Sky days, with output in WinHelp 3-4 and WinHelp2000 mainly for scientific clients who need a big screenshot content to support tech text. RH has always been temperamental but over the years I have learned where to kick it (mostly) to bring it back into line. X5 is by far the most fragile version I have had and I expect to need the well-documented uninstall/re-install procedure fairly frequently. In passing, the XP/Word 2003 'Repair' process seems to be adequate - the full Word uninstall/re-install thing does not seem to be necessary.

However, I do find that RH is a bit of a Prima Donna and sometimes objects to not having a dominant share of the stage. For example, if I have a Client's application running as well as RH for Word, plus screenshot and graphics apps (it often has to be done), RH may well throw a sulk and freeze the lot, despite more than adequate PC power. (Standard practice at times like these is very frequent saving, but the necessary reboots do become boring.)

You don't say what sort of corruption you are getting but it seems that deleting the .rtf at regular intervals is almost as good as an oil-change.

X6 (or whatever Adobe decides) may be more stable but I intend to have retired (again) before then. As I said, keep taking the aspirin...

Luck

Brian (UK)

Hi Brian,

Thanks so much for the reply. At least now I know it's not just me. I can relate very well to Robohelp sulking when having to share the stage too much, since I also run the client's app and screenshot apps along side Robohelp for Word. The last major tantrum resulted in numerous error messages and 24 out of 26 docs losing all their topics. I was very grateful for the copies I had of my project and the good stiff vodka I drank to take the aspirin. Anyway, guess I'll just keep deleting those .rtf files.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Mixing drink and drugs and you wonder why RoboHelp crashes!
