Hello All,
I have just installed the trial version of RH9 and now I cannot open my files... the following error message is displayed:
Error in reading RHFrameStyleMapping.apj file
Then, ... unable to load database for ... cpd
I have made some research on this topic but could not find the solution...any suggestions or advise?
Waiting for your answer...
Thanks a lot in advance.
First I hope you are opening COPIES of your projects as you will not be able to open a RoboHelp 9 project in an earlier version.
To get around your problem try copying that file from another project in RoboHelp 7 to the one you are trying to upgrade.

Neither the copy nor the original file can be opened... same error message is displayed.
Earlier when I upgraded from 6 to 7 it was enough to click Upgrade during opening the file and everything went smooth... why not now?

Did you copy that file from another project?
Also try copying the rhvariable file from another project.
Finally try deleting the CPD in RoboHelp 7, reopening in RoboHelp 7, then closing and then upgrading.
Do make sure you keep a copy that you do not attempt to upgrade.

LIke I said, you must backup your RoboHelp 7 projects before upgrading. I recommend that is done with a zip file so that you cannot open it in error.
When I upgrade I keep a copy in the old format. If the new version copy goes belly up, I can revert to the old version.
Also I would recommend you run the trial on a machine other than your production machine. Less trouble if you decide not to upgrade.
I doubt uninstalling and reinstalling will fix the problem you encountered as that is about missing / corrupt files in the project.

OK, Peter, then I try to install it on another machine later... I will come back to you, unfortunately now I have no more time to make experiments... but I won't give it up! Thanks for your kindness and help.

Peter, I have installed RH9 on a totally RH free machine, created backup for my files... nothing changed... something is missing... but what?

Have you tried copying the two files I suggested earlier before you upgrade?

I deleted the .cpd, the rhvariable cannot even be found...

I don't think you are following what I said. Get the style mapping and variable files from a RoboHelp 7 project that does have them and copy them into the RoboHelp 7 project you want to upgrade, then try to upgrade.

Well...
None of my files contain the RHFrameStyleMapping.apj Is it possible?
I have copied the rhvariable from a working RH 7 file...

What happens if you upgrade with just that file added?

Nothing... the very same error message is displayed.

Can you share the project with me?
If you can, create a zipped copy where you have not attempted to upgrade it. In other words, a clean copy.
See the Contact page on my site and send the project as instructed there. Do make sure you include a link to this thread and please do not email the project direct.

Yes, now it is great! Finally I managed to find the two missing files in a project:
I inserted them and now it is working...
Thanks for your patience... you were a great help for me again.
Have anice day!
