Hi there

Upgrading shouldn't affect any links or formatting. The process is simple and straightforward.

1. Make a backup copy of the project for our friend Justin. (Justin Case)

2. Start RoboHelp 10

3. Open the project in RoboHelp 10 and RoboHelp just does its thing.

Cheers... Rick

Your second question raises other questions we need answers to in order to help. Are you using the RoboHelp for Word interface or the RoboHelp HTML interface?

It sounds like you are using RoboHelp for Word as you are referring to a Word file. If you are, RoboHelp actually uses an RTF file output from Word so it is neither .DOC or .DOCX.

If you are using RoboHelp HTML and are wondering whether the printed output feature supports .DOCX, it does. When you generate the output you have the choice to save the file in either .DOC or .DOCX.

I am using robohelp for Word, I used the rtf but it seems like some ifnot all links, jumps came in as text. However, maybe I did something wrong in the process.

Are there step by steps insturctions?

The following are the steps I performed:

  1. Started in a new environment
  2. Copied the help file to a new location
  3. Opened the RTF and file save as docx
  4. removed the doc files
  5. Started Robohelp10

and found that the formatting/jumps and/or links was not brought in.

In that case this discussion should have been initially posted in the RoboHelp for Word forum category.

I'll now move it there so the few users that may be able to help might see it.

Part of the issue with using RoboHelp for Word is that the user base for it is in a great (and shrinking daily) minority. As the base shrinks and folks move away from it, tribal knowledge dwindles as an inevitable result.

Cheers... Rick

As far as I recall I used to work in a DOC file and RoboHelp took care of the RTF file. Wasn't it a standard way of getting out of trouble to delete the RTF, reopen the project and let Rh recreate the RTF from the DOC file?

I'm not sure working with the DOCX format will have any benefit or whether converting the DOC format will have any impact.

Personally after making sure I had a Rh8 copy saved somewhere safe I would just open the project in the normal way using Rh10 and see how my links were at that stage. If sweet, make a further copy and then play around.
