Uploading RH8 to TFS with the help of VSTS MSSCCI Provider Plug-In

I have upgraded an existing RoboHelp X5 Online Help project to RH8, and then imported topics from another RH8 project into it. The total number of topics exceeds 2500. I have also created about 20 folders in Project Manager to segregate the topics.

After that, I used the VSTS MSSCCI Provider plug-in to upload this project to a TFS Team Project. Initially it worked fine, but when I tried to download the source from TFS to another system, many folders were missing in the Project Manager pane, and there were a large number of broken links. Also the .mpj file was no longer available.

Why am I experiencing this issue, and is there any workaround or solution for the same?

It sounds like you did not install the Version 8 patches before opening projects. That can have done quite a lot of damage.

See Opening Projects on my site where there are instructions on how to put things right.

If you still have your X5 backups, it might be easier to start the upgrade again. The MPJ is an old file that was replaced by the XPJ in X5.

Thanks for your response, Peter.

I have gone through the "Opening Projects" section in your website and found a lot of useful information.

I would like to clarify a few more things from you before I proceed.

After taking backup, I would like to upload my RH8 project into TFS again. Do I install the required patches (8.0.1 & 8.0.2) before I do this? After uploading to TFS, I will again download it to my local machine. The problem had occured here the last time I did it. So this time, if the patches are installed from before, there shouldn't be any problem while downloading it. Am I right?

There is no way to upgrade the X5 project into RH8 again since we have come a long way and a lot of updates have been made in the topics.

You need to apply the patches, repair the project and then check it all in.
