Using AIR instead of HTML help

New Here ,
Oct 21, 2011 Oct 21, 2011

we have our entire help system in RoboHelp (linked FM files).  It is currently being produced and included in the software install as MSHTML help.  What is the advantage, if any, of transitioning to AIR as the published platform?  Does AIR need to be installed by the end user or does it have to be included in our build as a component?  I gather vaguely that AIR can have offline static as well as online updates of help content.  How is this configured?  What is a good starter guide for the transition?
