Version Number in Property dialog for chm

New Here ,
Feb 12, 2009 Feb 12, 2009
The developer in my company asked for a version number for the chm file I send him so that when you right-click the chm file (as you do with any other file, dll or exe in any application), the Property dialog is displayed and there is a Version tab where the Product Version can be entered.
When you open the Property dialog for the chm file, there is no Version tab.
Is there anyway to do this? Through RoboHelp?
Thanks,
judshal

Welcome to our community, judshal

I don't believe that's something that can be changed for CHM files.

If there is a way to do it, I've never seen it and don't know about it.

Giving a shout out here to my buddy Pete Lees. Pete, you watching this? What is your take?
(Pete is a bit of a walking encyclopedia when it comes to help things. A very bright and shining star!)

Cheers... Rick

Hi Judy, Rick,

I agree with Rick that this isn't possible. Here's the official word from Microsoft:

What about adding some sort of versioning inside the compiled CHM? Like an "About ..." menu/button? Is that sort of thing possible?

Hi Jeff

Indeed that is possible. I do it all the time. What I do is to enable one of the two possible Custom toolbar buttons. I label it "About" and create a special topic inside the CHM that I point the button to.

Cheers... Rick
