Why is the automatically generated RoboHelp TOC limiting itself to the top 2 topic levels?

I'm using TCS 4 with RoboHelp v10.0.1.292 and FrameMaker v 11.  I created some dummy DITA files in FrameMaker11 using the default choices and organized them in a ditamap to learn how to work with multiple topic levels.  My ditamap has 3 topic levels.  All 3 levels display in RoboHelp's Project Manager, however only the first 2 levels display in the automatically generated TOC.  (After generating WebHelp output, I can do a search and find the 3rd level content, but the 3rd level topics are not displayed in the WebHelp TOC either.)

First graphic:  3rd level files in Project Manager pod match how they are arranged in FM, and where they failed to show up in the FMTOC pod.

Second graphic:  I found that I can get the 3rd level to display in the RoboHelp TOC and in WebHelp output if I click the TOC pod AUTO-CREATE TOC icon - is this the solution or is there something I just haven't got set up yet?  If regenerating the TOC in RH is the solution, how do I get the accompanying file name problems to go away, i.e. the ditamap FILE name now replaces the ditamap TITLE, and worse, one of the task file names has replaced its title name.

Thanks for any clues you can provide.

I'm not sure how it behaves with Structured FM, but unstructured FM to RH depends on the FM ToC and the amount of indenting the conversion process detects to figure out that an H3 level heading should be 3 levels deep in the corresponding RH project ToC. Since formatting isn't very important in structured FM, maybe that's the problem with your H3 level topics.

I have the same problem with unstructured Framemaker. Even when I designated Heading 3 to a Heading 2 in Robohelp upon import of my Framemaker document, the Heading 3 topics were not broken out from under the Heading 2 and correspondingly, only Heading 1 and Heading 2s are shown in the TOC.

I was hoping to solve the TOC problem by designating my Framemaker Heading 3s as Heading 2s in Robohelp. Why isn't this working? The Heading 2 topics are also much longer than they should be for an online help page.

Set your Heading3 to create a new topic in your conversion settings  (File > Project Settings > FrameMaker > Edit > Paragraphs) to split the long Heading2 sections into multiple files.

Based on info from your other post, I see you've imported these into Rh, and they're no longer connected.

I suggest you use the AutoCreate TOC button to build a new TOC based on your current Project Manager structure.

However, you're still going to have to re-import your Fm files if you want to avoid cut n paste to split your topics up.

Hi Kate,

You need to redefine your Fm TOC to include the 3rd level.

If you don't want the 3rd level to display in print/PDF, you can define a 2nd TOC which includes the 3 levels you need.
