Working with RH8 and RH9

Explorer ,
Nov 16, 2011 Nov 16, 2011

At my company we have two teams of writers working on two versions of the same product - and there are major differences between the two. My team uses RH8. The other team has decided to create their own online help and has just purchased RH9. But they want to import my files to use whatever information they find compatible.

My questions:

  1. I know they can import my files, but will I be able to use theirs (if needed)?
  2. What are the major upgrades/benefits that I can use to convince my supervisor that I should upgrade to RH9?
  3. Are they any other issues that I should worry about when working with both versions simultaneously?

Thanks.

Hi,

  1. You will probably be able to import the HTML files, but some options might not be supported. (DHTML effects for instance.)
  2. See Peter Grainge's RoboHelp tour: http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/rh_tour/index.htm You can also check Using RoboHelp 9 for a couple of reviewers guides.
  3. Don't update a RH8 project to RH9. You won't be able to open the project in RH8 anymore. I use RH7 and RH8 similtaniously on one pc and I don't have any problems.

Greet,

Willam
