Hi,
I am trying to output a HTML5 help file and am receiving the following error message:
It is also adding this search option to the help file, which didn't exist before:
This help file has been generated numerous times in the past, with no problems. However, i am new to the company and am working on a different computer to the previous technical author, could this be the problem? No settings concerning the layout/output have been changed or interacted with in any way.
I am using Robohelp11, on a Windows 7 (64-bit) operating system.
All i can think is that the issue is due to me being a new user (permission based), or it's because the help file is being generated from a new computer?
Many thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide with this.

I think we might need to see how your SSL recipe is laid out. Where is the RH project located and where are you creating HTML5 output?

Hi there
Just trying to clarify Jeff's questions in the event you are also somewhat new to RoboHelp.
When Jeff refers to SSL Recipes, he is meaning to ask about the settings of the "Single Source Layout" (SSL) found in your Single Source Layout's pod. I tend to describe each layout you see here as being a different "recipe".
When Jeff asks where the RH project is located, he is asking if the project itself is on your C drive or on a network drive. (Network drives are very slow and RoboHelp will perform sluggish as well as sometimes corrupt the CPD file as well as other files)
Likewise, when Jeff asks where you are creating the HTML5 output, he is asking if the output folder is also on your local C drive or if it's on a network drive.
Cheers... Rick

Hi Jeff and Rick,
Firstly, thank you for responding. I am indeed new to Robohelp, after previously doing battle with HelpStudio ('interesting' software), and so the explanations help a lot thanks
Both the output and the Robohelp file itself are stored on my local C drive.
Here are some screenshots of the SSL recipe:
Once again, thanks in advance for any help.

For the MF_TMF_test, did you make changes the layout? Do you know what changes were made and how they were changed? It looks to me like the layout is updated and somehow it lost the required widget in code.

Hi Willam,
Thanks for your response.
I'm relatively new to the company and have no way to communicate with the previous tech author. As such i can't say with any certainty if anything has been changed or not, i can only say 'not to my knowledge'.
Is there a simple way to check the code?

Code and simple seem to have a troubled relationship 🙂
Can you try adding a new layout to the project (Theme1 or so) and use that for the output. Does that work?

Very true about code
Right now my shift has finished, but first thing tomorrow morning i will try the tactic you've suggested.
Thanks again for the speedy replies, it's much appreciated!

Hi Willam,
I tried adding a new layout, and this partially worked, so thank you for that The search function is now being output without any error messages, and i no longer have the unwanted 'Search Options' menu at the bottom of each page.
However, when i try to perform a search within my help output i am getting the following message:
Any ideas what could be causing this? And if the two issues are related?
Again, thank you for your responses.

What browser are you using & where is the help content located - web server or local LAN/workstation?

Hi Jeff,
I'm using Internet Explorer and the content is local.

Is it happening if you use other browsers?

Unfortunately it is, i tried with both Chrome and Firefox this morning.

Did you follow the advice in this thread - Re: Search Error: Failed to initialize database - concerning the MSXML patches?

Morning Jeff,
I have tried many things this morning, including the advice in the above thread. Here is a list of everything i have tried up to now:
The help file actually generates successfully on a colleagues computer, i'm not sure why this would be the case?
Thanks again,
Tom

If the same project works on another machine & not yours, then it got to be something in your environment that's causing the issue. Look for differences between your machine & the one it works on. Do you have the same rights? Are you using some CMS to store the project or are you just zipping it up to share with the other machine?

Thanks Jeff, i'll investigate this further. It could be something rights/permissions based. We are using SVN to share the file. I'll feed back after i have looked into this.
I didn't think it would be the case, as the rest of Robohelp works perfectly for me, it is just this one area.

Just checked the permissions and i have all of the necessary permissions i would need.
Currently we are comparing Windows registries for Robohelp between the two computers. Could it be a case of my computer not having something from the stylesheet that this help file is trying to use?

After looking through the Windows registries on both computers, there is no major difference from the Robohelp files, certainly nothing that should be causing this issue.
So, i am still lost as to how to solve this issue, and it's getting to the point where the requested help files are not going to be generated before the deadline.
If anyone has any other suggestions (short of just getting madcap flare) then they would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

In the output, can you check the whxdata folder? Do you have a lot of package**_xml.js files? If not, there seems to be an issue with MSXML.
Does the output behave the same on all browsers? Or just some?

Hi Willam,
There are 48 of the files you mentioned above, in a 320 page help file (when in PDF format), i'm not sure if this is a normal amount or not?
Also, it behaves the same in all browsers unfortunately.

That is a normal amount. These packages house the search index so there can be a lot of them. Normally, if the MXSML is an issue, these files will not be generated at all. So in your case, we can rule that one out.
Can you share the broken output with me? I would like to take a look at what is happening behind the scenes. You can contact met at: contact [at] wvanweelden [dot] eu.

Hi Willam, thanks for the response.
I wish i could, unfortunately i was denied permission to share my output with you, due to company confidentiality policies. I understand that this limits the amount of help i'll be able to receive, but unfortunately there's nothing i can do about it, it's out of my hands.

That happens - were you able to reproduce the issue in one of the RH sample projects? If so, you could send that to Willam.

My apologies for bumping/hijacking an old topic, but I am having the same error with a newly created RoboHelp 11.0.0.179 Responsive HTML5 projected. Fortunately, I have two output files to compare, and will call them "old" and "new."
Key differences:
NEW
OLD
