Confusion about the approval process of AI images at Adobe stock

Hello everyone,

Frankly speaking, the rules used to approve or disapprove AI images are confusing. If you give the same images to 2 different moderators, they'll come up with different decisions. That's what happened with me.

I follow the guidelines before submitting images by adding the necessary text strings in the image title and keywords. However, some images are rejected asking me to fill a model release. I was asked to do that for an image of the the Egyptian queen Nefirtit who died 3400 years ago! It was then approved after I removed the name "Nefertiti". I was also asked to fill the same form for 2 pictures of Santa Claus! The confusing things is that 2 other pictures of Santa Claus were approved (check screnshot) without any issues. More images were not accepted and again required filling a Model release although they are AI images!

No.1 (Santa image) was accepted and No.2 was rejected and Adobe asked for a Model Relase be filled! For Santa Claus?  
Images 3 and 4 of the woman in front of the old door were created using AI and they are not models and I didn't use any reference images when I made them. Images 5 and 6 were rejected for the same reason. 
If we must fill a form, it should be a form that state that we made the image and sign it. Other Model information don't apply to images generated by AI.

I sent a message to Adobe Stock and all I got was a genric email answer asking me to follow the guidelines. I don't think the person who replied really read the message. He sent a 2nd email and closed the case before I was able to reply.

I'm not sure under what circumstances the files you mentioned were accepted. All the file you post here require model releases. Most are looking like photographs and the other two could be portrait of real models. With that said, I'll break it down.

The persons reviewing your work most likely would not know if the model is dead or alive much or how long since she died. The moderators are not paid to research who's dead, alive how long etc. Besides the guideline does not stipulate duration of death of the individual for model release. I would believe the image of the dead person require model release signed by the next of kin.

If you create a generic portrait then you need to produce a property release. I'd note on it that the model is generic.

Thanks for your message. The image of Egyptian queen "Nefertiti" is a colorful drawing and not a hyperrealistic/photorealistic image. It was approved after I removed the name "Nefertiti". 

As for the Santa images, they were generated from the same prompt and it's confusing to see 2 accepted and 2 rejected. That's why I said the rules are confusing. It depends on who's checking the images.

The rules are not confusing, the handling of the new rules may be. One moderator may handle this correctly, an other may not. The rule is to submit a property release for people that could be modeled after existing people, but are not.

There have been several discussions here in the community forum about the need for product releases/model releases for Generative AI assets. You can search the forum for those. Regarding the request for a a model release for Santa Claus, it's a MAN in a Santa suit, that's why!!! The Moderators have no way of knowing whether the image was modeled after a real person.

The rules for model releases are simple:

1. if the image is of or resembles a real person you need a model release signed by that person

2. otherwise, you need a property release signed by you, as the artist.

If moderation is inconsistent, that is for sure due to the new theme, and that not every moderator has read the instructions.

Hi there, I have found an issue: some pictures I uploaded ended up with the "made with AI" tag, although I never checked that and images are 100% shot on my camera. What can I do to dispute that tag?

Use the Contact Us link on your Dashboard page to advise the asset numbers to Contributor Support. They'll remove that tag if it is clear that it is a photograph.

Were you careful to check the "Persons and property are fictional" box? I only submit AI and I have never been asked to provide a model or property release ever since Adobe no longer required them, so long as the appropriate boxes are checked. If you did check them, the moderator made a mistake. In any event, I noticed some minor errors in the images of the women standing in the doorways that would have (or at least should have) resulted in Quality Issues.
