Hello. Can you clarify, please, what's wrong with quality of my file? There were minimum correction done. Convertion from Raw format to full size jpg. It cannot be noise or something like this. I don't understand. Is it too minimalistic?

Hi nvodovoz,

That's a nice composition of a cup of tea. There is however a number of issues:

The image is not completely sharp.

It seem to be under exposed

It is excessively noisy - both luminance and color noise

And some how I do not like the the way it blends in with the background. In my opinion it would be difficult for an artist to crop it out of the background.

Best wishes

Hi,

The image is underexposed and there are definitely signs of noise as mentioned.

What was the rejection reason? My guess would be exposure problems or 'artifacts', in this case being noise.

You will have to increase the exposure and reduce the noise. However, I would take this image again if possible and not make it so dark looking. And as mentioned, I don't think the background suits the image.

Hi Ricky,

There is in fact a technique of lighting that allows subjects to separate from their background that I believe would work well to prevent the blending of the cup of tea with its black background.

Hi Nvodovoz,

This is still blending in too much with the background. The subject has to be as such it can be easily cropped out of its background. Transparent subjects most likely will not work that well except you can create a level of filtered, or reflecting lighting that will not show up in your framing. That cup filled with black tea creates a level of opacity that is more likely to work. You'll need to learn how to, and experiment with light positioning until you get it right. The lighting is the key.

Jacquelin
