Pictures Rejected

Hey there,

so I recently went through some old colour scraps of mine and scanned and uploaded them. Some were rejected because of technical issues - my question here would be are they to dark, is that the problem? (see abstrakt-0116.jpg) And others are too simliar, where my question is, yes they are similar in colour and medium, because they are from one and the same collection, but they are still different, so why? (see abstrakt-0096.jpg [not accepted] vs. abstrakt-0011.jpg [accepted])

On top of that abstrakt-0089.jpg supposedly contains people or buildings and I need a model release???

Please help!

Hi @Aisleen,

You have some nice abstracts there, and I'm sure after little corrective action, you will be able to get them through.

You will need for all of your work a property release. The moderator does not guess that the work is yours, so they need to refuse on that basis. If you attach a property release to each of your artwork, you won't get refusals for that reason any more (IP related). To be honest, all of your pictures should have been refused on this basis.

116 does, however also expose a lot of dust. Scanning a dark surface really makes the dust visible. Certainly, that is considered a defect that leads to a refusal. You need to do some clean-up work, first before scanning and then digitally after the scan to get also the last leftovers.

Surely, the dust is also present in the less dark submissions, but it's not prominently visible, if at all, in the scan. Dark background and light reflecting dust makes it a good contrast with your scanner. If the scanner has a hardware dust recognition system, it would be worth to try that out. Software dust reduction makes your picture less sharp.

The moderator considered the 2 submits 96 and 11 as similar, and so he or she refused one of them. They are similar, as you state yourself and yes, they are different, but not different enough in the appreciation of the moderator. Here you should really not submit similar artwork and for sure you should not submit it in the same batch.

thank you for your answer! It helps a lot! I`ll be cleaning up my paintings before scanning them next time, I already nexted some photographs of other paint scraps because I only noticed the dirt when I looked at them on the pc.

Concerning the property release form, is that the same for the buildings? And do I need that for every one of my paintings? Sorry for the questions, I am new to the stock thing. Just recently realised it might be a good option for all the drawings and paintings I have laying around.

You need to attach it for every one of your paintings, but I think you can use the same again and again. Let's get @MatHayward into this as I'm not really the property release specialist for my paintings.

As for the clean-up: dark surfaces are more prone to dust. Lighter surfaces melt the dust into the drawing. But it's always a good idea to clean the drawings (and the scanner's glass) before the scanning process. Some clean-up can be done digitally with Photoshop and similar, but it's simply easier to get clean scans beforehand.

It's quite a stretch to see that 0089 needs a model release. Are you sure it isn't asking for an IP release?
