Artifacts

Artifacts include noise, gains, color fringing, and other artificial coloration that is many times present in the body of the image. Grains are a dark spot that is usually more visible in the dark and shady areas of the image and is more visible at smooth areas magnified at 100 to 200%. Grains are also visible in smooth areas. As you view these areas you'll notice if there's a light spectrum of colors that should not be there. For example, shadow having colors of purple, blue, pink etc. and not solid black. Color fringes are usually at the edges, most of the times purple. To correct these you need to, with an editing software, apply a small amount of postprocessing. Be careful not to make it obvious.

Noise reduction will help fix some of the problems.But I've seen some more in addition to ricky336 ​'.

There's a logo, there's a phone number and there's a photographer. And still, there's also noise in that part. So yes, it will be possible to save that picture, but it will be much easier to retake a picture with stock in mind, as raw (with the phone, if the phone allows), to edit out the phone number and the plate (I suppose that has been done) and to submit that picture.

So rickey 336 - Could the entire image in the window be darkened completely out? Then submit it? Easy enough to do selecting the window and using curves or exposure? JH

You could do noise reduction on the background, filling the reflection with something different and resubmit. I personally would retake the picture paying more attention to different issues. The artefacts issue however will stay as long as as you use your phone to take JPEG images.

E_Koren, Cell phone offerings might be accepted - must have exceptional conditions and lighting. Reduction of noise needs a light touch. I would darken only the images in the windows to cover the information contained here. Go ahead and try corrections using the above hints and resubmit it. Let us know how your resubmission comes out. If the noise issues and JPEG artifacts can be dealt with - I don't think noise reduction will help though - it will just smooth over the pixels and therefore create a 'painterly' look.

However, I also think IP rights could be the next problem. Wouldn't the school bus come under IP rights - so you would need a property release - unless you already have this?

Smartphones are accepted - it just depends on the final quality!

Like Abambo - I would also retake the picture - if possible - keeping all these things in mind.

I didn't think the bus would come under ip laws without identifiable marks, right? Why would it? Is there someplace someone could point me to find an easy version of these laws?

No, smartphone images are accepted. You reach just quite soon the limits of what is an acceptable picture.

Thank you for your help! I apologize for leaving the conversation hanging, but I couldn't get to the chat from my mobile phone, and couldn't get to my computer.

I used to submit photos and artwork to other online sights, but since I like Adobe so much (for basically everything I do), I appreciate stock photo sites, and have always told myself that I was going to do this when I could make some time. I did read the requirements, but it's one of those things that I will have to figure out as I go I suppose. I'm sure I'll learn to see the things you pointed out quickly, I'm a bit rusty.

I want to try to fix the photos, just for practice. So I'll resubmit when I get a chance. I'll have to look into using my iphone at a raw setting. I didn't know if that was possible, and wasn't sure how raw the submitted photos needed to be.

Speaking of, my camera is about 7 years old, so, I really need a new one, and I've debated buying one before the year is over. Are you guys allowed to suggest a camera for taking this type photo that would be the most economical with the best features? I would like wifi/bluetooth.

I won't recommend a camera, because many cameras are good enough for the job. Just a few recommendations:

• Sensor size should be around APS C. Micro 4 thirds is the absolute minimal size.
• 20MP pixels, bigger sensor sizes can be higher in resolution
• interchangeable lenses
• possibility to connect remote controlled flashes -- this is probably possible for most cameras of above features.
• If you want wifi, so it be, but it's probably my last feature I would add, even if it's handy sometimes.
