this one is also underexposed and there are a few distracting elements that should be removed.

Exposure on this one in particular, but they could all be brightened up a bit.

For most scenes, it is NOT necessary to set the aperture at f16, and indeed that could result in too little light for the scene and too much noise. There is a "sweet spot" for most lenses, which can easily be determined by googling for that info. For my most often used lens, the Canon 24-105mm L, the sweet spot is F8 - F11, and indeed the vast majority of my images are captured within that range.

F4 is not a good choice for landscape images. The DOF is too shallow.

In general, you are right, but I have taken landscape pictures that were razor-sharp at f1.4…
There is more than the aperture. You really should study the relation between the aperture and the sensor size. Phones have a tiny sensor, so they have more DOF at lower aperture than a bigger sensor. https://fstoppers.com/education/understanding-how-sensor-size-affects-depth-field-312599

Am I recalling the saying correctly? f8 and don't be late?

Exactly. F8 is always a good starting place, and that's where I usually leave my camera so that if I grab it and don't have time to fiddle with the settings, I'll almost always get a useable image.

You have a nice variety of images, but the titles are sometimes inadequate. For instance "tree on a beach".
This one should never have been approved; the cutout work is quite poorly done:

Also this one - the background is incomplete:

Thank you very much for the valuable advice!

You should not hijack a different thread with this. And you should ask specific questions about your issues. If you have pictures that got accepted, they were, at least at the time of acceptance, probably good enough to be added to the database.
