Video format problem

Hello, I want to ask, I want to upload my stock video in mp4 format, but when I check the assets or stock videos of other contributors, they are all in MOV format, My videos are made using AI so the default format is mp4, do I have to convert my video first to MOV format??

yes i have read it, maybe the more precise context is why most contributors use MOV format? is there a reason behind it?? even though other formats like MPEG and mp4 are also supported, it's just my doubt

.mov files are quicktime apple container files. mp4 files are also container files. Other container files (less frequent today) are avi on the PC platform. They contain additional information about the CODEC that has been used to save the movie file. A .mov and an .mp4 may both have used the same CODEC. The CODEC needs to be supported by your system (or by Adobe's database). And the CODEC determines the quality and compression ratio of your video.

So, in general it is irrelevant what container file format you choose.

When a lot of the contributors choosee the .mov container files, it only says that this is probably the easiest for them. Probability is high, that they are working on a macOS computer.

The recommended video codec is ProRes, which is preferred by professional editors.
It allows you to save beautiful images with little degradation.

My mp4 to mov converter doesn't have prores codec available, the highest is H264, is that okay?

There's no point in simply shooting in MPEG4 and converting it to ProRes, so I think it's best to leave it as is.

Simply upload your mp4 files. They still need to use a supported CODEC and they still need to meet the quality requirements.

If you check the documentaion, you will see that ProRes and H.264 are recommended CODECs.

The recommended CODEC is the source CODEC of the tool you are using. If you can choose at the source, ProRes is a good choice. But if the generative AI tool does not code in ProRes, there is no advantage in converting it to ProRes just to have a ProRes coded movie.

You will need to acquire some video theory if you want to understand why this or that choice is best. If you do not want to learn that, which is completly OK, follow just blindly what Adobe accepts, by prioritizing what they recommend. You will be fine with that.
