Am I doing something wrong here or am I not understanding something I have tried many times

Video templates are not generally accepted file formats. You need to get invited to be able to do so, as there is a specific procedure to do so. And, if I understand Adobe correctly, they don't issue invitations currently. But you can always try: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/motion-graphics-template-requirements.html
