What was the reason you were given?  Technical issues?  I think it would be the oversaturated colours.

Which one did you submit that got rejected?  The first one or the original that you just posted?  If it was the first one, I would assume it is because of the oversaturated colours.  When it comes to post processing, minimal and inconspicuous is best as stated in Adobe's Requirements for Contributing:

General editing tips

Do: Process your images subtly — clean color images that are in focus sell well. 

Do: Check out our Photoshop tutorialsLightroom tutorials, and Lightroom Classic tutorials covering everything from adjusting an image’s tone and color to sharpening.

 

I personally don't see much wrong with your second posted photo (original).  (And I do think it is well composed and interesting subject.)
