This image has been rejected. Similar images have been accepted an I have already sold.
Hi Martin, Aesthetic is always a judgment call. The problems could be.:. The large unfocused houses/scenery in the back ground which draw my eye powerfully away from the arrow. The arrow appears drawn with uneven stripes making it awkward, The whole image is rotated out of line clockwise and lines up better if rotated counter clockwise (just a bit).

Hey Martin,
as Richard already mentioned, esthetic is a jugment call. I agree with the decision of the moderator. While the composition is interesting, I don't see much commercial appeal here. I'm not sure who would buy the image and if they did, what the image would be used for.
Regards
Stephanie

I don't think it was rejected only for aesthetic appeal (however you spell it!)
Your DOF is very narrow on that shot Martin. For example, while I don't have any problems at all with the scenery in the background being out of focus (it should be), it bothers me that the grass on top of the wall is out.
The wall, including its vegetation, is the focus of the image and you should have a DOF that allows for at least a couple of feet of focus so that the grass is in too.
It would also have helped the bottom left to be more in focus although I suspect there may be camera shake involved here.
