i have only been using the stock photos for a couple of months and after the 1st month I changed my plan to 10 pics a month but how do I know how many pics I have downloaded. I don't want to exceed my limit but equally what happens if you don't use the full 10 do you lose them when the next licence is paid.

I don't know what asset it is, you should include the link here. If you have a subscription, that subscription covers standard assets, not premium ones (enhanced licence) and not extended licences. Video is also not included.

Look into your licence history for knowing the number of credits used.

As for the credits remaining:

stock.Adobe.com tells you how much you still have (you need to be logged in for this):

Sorry, I did not answer completely your question: Unused allowances from the prior month carry over to the next one for up to a year of credits. So if you are on a 10-images/month-subscription, you can accumulate up to 120 credits, given that you do not use one asset.

But to add here: if you cancel your subscription, you lose all unused credits.
