Image has no transparent backgound, but is checkered

Hi, I downloaded AdobeStock_300221760 and it was said that the background is transparent. It isn't. I't checkered and when I disable those layers the background is grey and when I disable that layer the image is not usable. I see many images like that in the search results and can't see how these images could be useful to anyone?

Images like this one need to have a background against which the effect is rendered. The image asset is fully usable, but because it's somehow advanced Illustrator magic, a lot of people have problems with that:
