You need to open that asset as a vector file in illustrator to get a transparent background.

BTW: there is no need for the contributor of this asset to create a fake transparent background. This asset works fine on a real transparent background. Only the preview would show a white background, and this as well for the JPEG file, if someone wants to get that.
