Misleading File Downloads - "Line Icons" that are not strokes

Hi there, so I have been using adobe stock for more than a year now on a company package and I think it is great and all as I am not paying for it, but I have noticed that there are a ridiculously large amount of assets that have misleading discriptions and titles.

I am a web developer and I rely heavily on icons that are made up of 100% editable strokes and I have noticed that just about 50% of the vector icon assests on adobe stock claim to be 'editible stroke icons' - until I donwload and open them... they usualy end up being closed curve icons that contain fills and no outlines...

I think that is hughly unethical as that renders the download unusable for my purposes - in other words I can do nothing with the assets unless I retrace them using strokes (if I had time to do that I would not be using a stock library)... I guess the thing that bugs me most is that if I download the file and realise that it is not what it says it is - there is no way for me to report the asset to let other users know that the file name and description are missleading or inacurate.

Please post an asset number of such an asset.

If assets are faulty or not to be used as indicated, they will be taken down by Adobe. But you need to give Adobe a chance to learn about the files. Also, if they are indeed faulty, you will get rewarded with a replacement license.

So does that mean that everytime I find an asset like that I will need to post it here?

Feels like I have just opened up a rather lenghty can of worms for you. Will bookmark this thread and post an update here everytime I find one 🙂

Don't you have one at hand now? I suspect that there is either a misunderstanding or a faulty handling. But I will not rule out the possibility that the asset is not usable for what you want to do.

Hey again, no I think you missunderstand, it is not that the assets are NOT usable for what I want to do. It is that their description is missleading and they are not what they say they are. I am not going to go thru the assets I have already downloaded as it is usually around 20-60 images per day, a great deal of those claim to be 'thin line stroke icons' I donwload in order to animate them in browser - if they are not strokes but solid shapes my script does not compile and they do not animate. There are MANY of those.

Another thing I found now while working on another site and slightly unrelated but still comes down to the same issue - missleading:

https://stock.adobe.com/images/editable-vintage-retro-text-effect-simple-modern-and-old-easy-to-edit...

If you download this asset and open it you will find the font is missing the description/title is as folows: "Editable Vintage Retro Text Effect. Simple, modern, and Old. Easy to edit. Vector illustration." but once downloaded and opened the effect is lost and the font needs to be downloaded. Saying it is a 'Vector illustration and Editable text effect" is a controdiction in itself.

All that being said - how does one go about reporting these assets as I am the one downloading them I feel like it is pointless and cumbersome making it your issue as I suspect you are not an adobe employee and would have to follow a procedure to report them that I would most likely be able to do myself?

Thanks for the help though but I feel like this is going to be a part time job at this point.

Here we go:

This is an example. File claims to be 'editable strokes' but again is a curve with a fill and no stroke, thus in no way an editable stroke, meaning I donwloaded it but can do nothing with it unless I redraw it using strokes only...

https://stock.adobe.com/images/email-line-icons-set-letter-spam-mail-open-envelope-postage-stamp-mai...

I get atleast 1 a day... waisting my asset downloads and time daily.

By @DennisFMiX

Sorry for this rather late answer. I downloaded the asset and as expected, I need to replace the font with one at my disposal. Fonts are copyrighted and can't be included into the graphics. Publishing this with the font outlined does not make sense. As for the rest, the illustration is usable and does all it needs to do:

FYI: Adobe employees are badged as employees. So, I'm not.

I understand that but das I am paying for these assets I would like for there to be a disclaimer stating that the fonts are not included. I could easily select a diffirent font and make it work but that does not change the fact that I paid for something I was not expecting.

Same goes for the original topic of this thread. Icons are being sold stating that they are "100% Editable Stroke" once opened it is easy to see that they are in fact solid shapes with outlines, again I can easily retrace the element using only an outline but that is not what I am paying for, I might as well just draw them myself from the get-go, this results in having to download diffirent files only to experience the same issue.

I think the vetting process for assets to be added should be a bit more consice.

The font can be downloaded as freeware, if the search I did is correct. The effect does not disappear. So, your post is not correct: but once downloaded and opened the effect is lost. But it may well be that the effect asks for a higher version of Illustrator than you have installed. That is unfortunate: Adobe stock does not tell you the version of Illustrator used to create the asset.

For sure, it's also unfortunate that the font is not one of Adobe fonts that would make things easier.

You did not include the reference to the asset for your original post. So, I can't check that.

From my own failures, I can say that the vetting process is quite stringent. However, errors that need correction are part of the process. But at least for the asset you criticized and that I checked I found that the asset is usable according to the description. And fonts are never part of the asset.

I completely agree, I always add "editable stroke" on my search box, and some icons that claim to be stroke are shapes, like all icons from "Innox" for example, that claims to be editable stroke, big fat lie.

Here's the link to the liar:

Yeah, this is a much bigger issue than it is getting credit for. There should be a vetting system in place for these graphics. I download a ton of stroke icons and the vast majority end up being shapes with fill colors and no outlines. I specifically require the icons to be outlines with strokes - that means that all the vectors that claim to have "editable strokes" are 100% missleading and I can do nothing with them and then need to find other files that usualy also end up being shapes with fills, this waistes time and money.

ANOTHER LIER. SOOOO ANOYING - When is this going to be taken care? I feel these liars are taking advantage, they probably get money every time one of their fake stroke icons is downloaded.

I couldn't agree more. It would be very easy for adobe to let users rate illustrations, I'd give a lot of people 1 star for being liars. Like Max for instance, be aware of his fake claims, don't download anything from this very unethical, umproffessional liar

https://stock.adobe.com/contributor/207712830/max?load_type=author&prev_url=detail

I have posted on this community before, but it seems Adobe couldn't care less.

Again, I am not sure if I am the only one that keeps running into this but it is really not an accurate representation of icon assets.
Below you will see in my attached screenshots that this asset:

https://stock.adobe.com/za/search?load_type=search&is_recent_search=&search_type=usertyped&k=media+l...

Claims to be a "576 Thin Line Icons" and yes, I guess visually they are 'line icons' just like saying that anything on your screen is a pixel... but from a technical perspective saying something is a line would - to me at least indicate that they are vector items with an applied stroke, when a great deal of the assets on adobe stock always end up being solid shapes with filles called 'Line Artwork'. As much as I appreciate the feedback from Abambo on this thread and can understand his feedback the facts remain the same.

A solid shape with a fill is NOT Line Art. For anything to qualify as a "Line Icon" and/or "Line Art" the result should return a stroke and not a fill. As simple as that. This is misleading and there should be a ratiing and or comment system on each image that can allow users to warn other people that the icons are not strokes.

I really hope this thread helps encourage others to report these kinds of issues as it is at the end of the day dailight robbery.

I don't know why you don't just use "extend" in Illustrator? You'll get the line FX you want. Just have to delete the "filled" solid object that's all. Its not like they'er not vectors.

Unfortunitly this defeat the purpose of using stock. In some cases I outline the curve but it is not always a quick - one click task. Many of them require breaking the lines apart so that you don't have overlapping lines in sections where they should not be. The icon above in you're screenshot is still not strokes and just fills a object with a fill that has been extended (or trimmed) Do me a favour and apply a red stroke to that vector and see what happens.

I specifically need them to be strokes to achieve animations as well as manipulate them via browser based frameworks.

The issue is that when I file claims to be a Line Icon, it should have a stroke but no fill. As simple as that.

I can see based on the CMYK in you're screenshot you prob use these for print purposes. I don't.

I can't believe you are suggenting to just delete the filled solid object!! You obviously don't woork with Illustrator. Just about 5% of the files will work using this method. Dennis is absoluted correct. "The issue is that when I file claims to be a Line Icon, it should have a stroke but no fill. As simple as that."

O kiddo, I've been using Illustrator for years and years. I know many tricks. But you young man should have better manners.

Anyways its really not that complicated. Easy to fix. Takes just seconds. I fix those messed up things all the time.

But since you're rude, I won't share.

-Bye 😊👋
