Stock Photos background not transparent

I have downloaded stock images with transparent backgrounds, but the gray/white grid is not transparent.  It seems that PS is rasterizing the image.  The file is *.ai.   What is going on and how do I resolve it?

You need to open it in Illustrator, just check the layers, and sub layers, you will find the background layer, and turn off the background layer.
