Substance Designer long loading time opening packages

Community Beginner ,
Jul 15, 2022 Jul 15, 2022

Eveytime I open packages I have created and saved I get the update window saying it needs to update but it also says when it's saved it won't do it again, but everytime it is opened it has to update everything, sometimes this can take 10 or so minutes. Is there a solution to this?

Hello @vaughmj1,

There are two things at play here:

In our 12.2.0 release, we have fixed an issue where packages with a lot of dependencies would take a very long time to load. Thus I recommend you update Designer to that version if possible. The full release notes are available here.

To confirm, did you save the file after it updated?

Yep, I open it to work on them then the next time I open the files the changes I make to the graphs are all there but it still goes through the updating process.

Hello @vaughmj1,

When loading a package, Designer checks the version of that package and all its dependencies, then prompts the user to update them. However, when saving the package these dependencies are not saved along with, and thus need to be updated again every time the host package is loaded. To save all of a package's dependencies, do the following:

  1. Click RMB on that package in the Explorer dock and select the Open dependencies option. All the package dependencies are then loaded in the Explorer.
  2. Go to File > Save all in the main menu bar, which saves all packages loaded in the Explorer.

You should not encounter an updater prompt again when loading the host package anymore.

Feel free to let me know the results.

Best regards.

Hi Luca, thank you for the suggestion. I noticed a huge improvement just with the updated version before doing the dependencies, so will see how it goes after that. Thank you.
