How to export udim sequence from output node in Substance Designer.

Hi there,

I want to export UDIM sequence from the Substance Designer output node.

I work with imported geometry, and I can link my resources as a UDIM sequence. I can apply it on a graph but can't export UDIM sequence from my output node.

I can batch export output as bitmaps for each UV Tile from the resource folder but not from the main graph, where all the output nodes are being stored.

Could anybody help me to understand this?

Thank you!

Cheers!

Jarka

Hi Jarka,

This should be possible. When Exporting bitmaps, select the batch section and all the desired UV Tiles.

Make sure the 3D mesh has been assigned to the graph (RMB > Assign Substance Graph to 3D Mesh > All).

Best regards,

Hi Cyril,

Thank you for your reply.

That is exactly how I'd expect it to be, but for some reason, it doesn't work for me. Let me describe step by step what I did, what did I expect, and what isn't working for me. Maybe I am doing something terribly wrong here.

1. - Starting with a new substance graph (this createa a new package)
2. -  rmb to the package - link 3D scene. Confirm 'yes' I want to use it as a Udim mesh
3. - rmp to resource folder and link bitmap (linking my texture udim sequence baked from mari) - confirm to link it as a template, which will load it as a udim sequence
4. - draging the image sequence from the resource folder into the substance graph, creating an OUTPUT node (only then does the grayed-out option 'link the graph into the 3D mesh' becomes active)
5. - rmb in the empty space within the substance graph and assign the graph to 3D mesh. Now, I can switch between UV tiles in the viewport.
This action creates a duplicate of the substance graph in the resource folder and HERE COMES THE PROBLEM

THE PROBLEM:
The duplicate of the substance graph that was created includes the resource image sequence but the output node is only in the main graph. (in explorer window)
If I create a new output node in the duplicated graph, it gets mirrored into the main graph (in the node view) but doesn't create output in the linked 3d geometry graph (inside explorer view) and can't be exported as bitmap under 3d geometry graph but only under the main graph where there is no export udim batch option.

From my exploration, it looks like the output node is just not designed to output sequence by default and there is no easy implementation of how to export udim sequence from the output nodes than just go play with functions and somehow get the udim sequence index into the pattern menu in the batch export option, which seems to be the only available option there...

Is there anything that I can do differently to get the output node created under the 3D mesh graph with the export udims batch option?

Thanks a lot!

Cheers!
