Is there a way to mask certain shapes in a tiled pattern?

Created this pattern and trying to mask certain shapes  so i can color them. Included some images to explain what i mean.Is there way to this?

Hi you could try a histogram scan followed by a flood fill to drive a random fill colour which you could use to index masking .
