I try to simulate wood section with Substance Wood material

Start with a shape, horizontal lines ( a tiled gradient) and a Dynamic Gradient (set to vertical orientation)  to get the basic rings.

After that it is transforming, warping, adding noise, cells and colour to get the effect you want.

LATEST

Most wood materials have the grain lengthways rather than across the end. You could of course create your own end grain material and use the same colours taken from one of the other woods for the grain variation. That and maching the grain size would allow you to use the two together.
