Select upstream/downstream & auto arrange nodes

Is there a way in SD to select all upstream or downstream nodes from single/multiple nodes? Also, is there a way to "auto arrange" nodes upstream/downstream so that every node is laid out nice and tidy? (3ds Max Slate Material Editor has a handy "lay out children" function)

Re-arranging and moving nodes around sometimes can be very tedius and flow-killing.

Hello @AllenTLF,

As you found out, the Select parent nodes option in a node's contextual menu lets you select all upstream nodes. There is however currently no way to select all downstream nodes. You may use the Python API to implement your own solution for this.

I will report this suggestion to the rest of the development team. Thank you for your patience!

Best regards.

I'm going to answer my own question:

Right click on nodes and there is a "Select Parent Nodes" command to select all upstream nodes. But I didn't find any command to select "child nodes/downstream nodes".

@Luca Giarrizzo Sounds great and thanks to reply to my message! This implementation will be useful. Since you're going to suggest the selec downstream feature, it will be grea to also suggest a select "up/downstream" (select whole tree) feature! 😉
