Constant Crashing, Multi Monitor setup.

Community Beginner ,
Jun 22, 2023 Jun 22, 2023

the issue is, whenever the program either: launches window into non-primary monitor, or is moved into second monitor and interacted with, program crashes.

to explain why this is an issue, substance painter is a painting program. Digital painting uses drawing tablets. MOST people using drawing tablets professionally use visual drawing tablets, which are monitors. to that end, they will also almost always be using a computer monitor as their primary, and the tablet as a second monitor, for various reasons. this is the most common setup in my experience.

I have tried all the troubleshooting I can, and I can't get the app to remain stable if my monitor is set as primary. However if I use my tablet as a primary display, the program works as expected, without crashing, so long as I never move the window onto my monitor, which is now configured as secondary.

some suggestions from the forum had me adjust my settings through Nvidia control panel, going to 3d settings and turning off vsync, as well as setting the maximum framerate as high as possible. as far as I can tell this has done nothing, so while I think it is likely some sort of settings mismatch between the app and the monitor it is in, changing these particular settings didnt fix it unfortunately.

How to reproduce:

launch substance painter into second monitor (not primary/main in windows) or drag substance into second monitor.

right click, if it hasnt crashed yet.

it crashes.

As it is, I will just have to suffer through my drawing tablet being my primary monitor for now, hoping this post helps others with the issue get to a place where they can work, but more so I hope this helps the dev team fix the issue, as it looks like something that has been a problem for at least 3 years now. attached is my log, since I spent a bunch of time crashing the program hopefully there's at least a little bit of information there that they can use.

Hi @Steven30649280u1mw,

Thanks for reporting and thanks for all the details added to this thread.

The screen tablet issue is indeed something that some users encounter and it's still something that we have trouble to address for multiple reasons: Not so many users face this issue (so not so many data), not an easily reproducible bug, a lot of different brands, drawing tablets, driver versions, etc.

With that being said, this is still something we want to take care of, therefore would you mind also sharing your Tablet brand and the driver version you're currently using? We're always eager to have as many data as we can.

Let me know.

PS: If another user face this issue, feel free to share your log (help>export log...) and your tablet info down this thread.

Hi

I wonder if this is unique to tablet screens?  I use dual Eizo monitors here (separate Wacom tablet) and have no issues at all dragging between monitors or working with panels on the other monitor to that which the main application window is using (be that primary or secondary). Both monitors are connected to the same GPU (RTX3090).

I'm not adding this to dispute your issue - just to try and help narrow it down.
