Substance Painter 11.1.0 pen lagging

Community Beginner ,

Hello. Since version 11.1.0 I noticed that pen performance is much worse compared to version 11.0.3 (tested both in identical scenario). While on a new file it not as obvious, when complexity increaseses pen strokes with Windows Ink enabled are very unresponsive. Turning Windows Ink off or using mouse for painting makes the strokes smooth again (losing pen pressure in return). This is not the case with 11.0.3 where brush strokes are responsive regardless of Windows Ink status.

Same Issue here, confing XP Pen 24 artist Pro. Drives me crazy. Not trouble at all with previous versions. Passing OK, without window ink activated on xp pen driver board, but the brush react with no sensivity at all.

"good" in a way to here that its not just kamvas then.

My pc isnt as beefy as the above but its no slouch either.

GPU: RTX 4090

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X

RAM: 64.0 GB DDR5

SSD: Corsair MP600 Pro

Tablet: Huion Kamvas 24 Plus

I noticed its lags just after a few layers in the stack, really nothing heavy ... and winink on of course for the sensitivity.

Its completely fine without winink and with the mouse. Maybe its a vulcan / nvidia thing? But I got the latest gfx drivers so who knows.

11.1.0 version of painter is broken with wacom pen, mouse is fine but try the same stroke with pen, Painter lags out and freezes for a few seconds. Only fix is to disable Windows Ink but then that disables pressure settings.
Wacom Intuos Pro, Windows 11, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060
Confirmed this is ONLY happening with new version of Painter. Every other program has both pen and pressure settings without lag of any kind.

The same thing happens with Xencelabs and Wacom — brush strokes update very slowly, even in a relatively simple file. If I paint with a mouse, everything is fine. What’s more, the issue didn’t appear immediately after updating Substance Painter, but some time later in a file I had been working on for a long time. Latest drivers, RTX4080, i7-14700KF, 64Gb RAM, ssd

I have the same issue (using a Huion Kamvas Pro 24) after I disabled the windows ink function within the Huion app, painter works fine without lagging but the pen pressure is broken ....
I hope Adobe will fix this soon.

Exact same issue, can't continue working right now because of it. Since the file versions are updated I can't revert to an older version of Substance Painter either. Updated all my drivers, tried various older versions for my tablet drivers to see if that would improve anything. Nothing works so far and even files that I've worked on for a long time or finished working lag when using windows ink.

I switched back to Version 11.1.0 The pen pressure works and I'ts compatible with newer version files too. I guess I will stick to this version until the issue got fixed 😄

I just want to add to the conversation and hope that Adobe will fix the issue soon.
I'm using an XP-Pen Tablet and I'm also experiencing lag when using windows ink. Drivers are obviously up to date.

I've noticed that there's no lag when I start a new project with only a single layer. It seems to start lagging when there's many layers.

Hello, we just released a bug fix version 11.1.2 that should address the pen tablet lag. Could you please update and check if it solves the problem?

Yes I think thats done it, seems sorted.

Not heavily stressed test it but it seems to be good at a glance

Thanks

I did notice quickly on another file, when I turned off a layer all the projections seemed to break. Not sure if thats just an error with that file though. I think it was created in 11.03. Ill rollback to 11.03 and turn the layers off and on later to see if its just a weird broken file.

@ValeriaGrnt I can confirm that I have an issue now with backward compatiblility with a file made in 11.03, where a toggled layer seems to break projection of masks on other layers. Not a huge deal a rollback to 11.03 to make my edits isnt too painful

I think I can help, until they fix it, disable SVT, Sparse Virtual Texture: OFF, for more details search for this on Chatgpt, but when you disable it the Pen flows normally without crashes, if it's still heavy, disable Ray tracing in the settings as well.

LATEST

I wouldn't rely on ChatGPT information blindly. The Raytracing setting only applies to baking, it has nothing to do with interactions in the viewport, so there is no point in disabling (it would just make your baking slower).
SVT is a setting that allows you to cache parts of your mesh that are not currently displayed (for ex. if you are zoomed in very close, we don't calculate the part of the mesh you don't see). I am not sure that disabling would do anything in this case, and in any case the pen lag should be fixed with the latest bug fix.
