BaseColor Exports with Checkered Pattern?

Hey everyone,

I'm having a strange issue. My basecolor map is exporting with this strange checkered pattern, although it doesn't look like that in Painter at all.

Here is the effect after exporting:

What it looks like in Painter (simple Walnut wood texture):

This happened after I exported in 8K textures. What could be the problem? I've tried different things, such as rebaking, re-exporting multiple times, and changing the quality setting in Shader Settings.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the message and visuals.

This issue is due to resources in the Layer stack that weren't built for 8K resolution. Therefore, when increasing the resolution from 4K to 8K, some resources can instead jump back to the lowest resolution (because they can't find the next one, which is 8K), and this results with squares in exported maps.

The solution is to find the problematic resource, and replace it with another one. If you do, please let me know which resource was creating artifacts, so we can fix it.
