Create Displacement/Height maps from Normal maps???

Explorer ,
Nov 21, 2023 Nov 21, 2023

Hello everyone,

I looked online and seem not to find a answer to my question. Is it possible to make a displacement/Height map from your normal map on SP? Heres a example; you purchase a premade high rez basemesh that includes texture and normals but would like to use the high frequency details from the normals in zbrush but zbrush does not use normals maps. So now you need to convert the normals map into Height/displacement maps and how would you go about doing so in SP? I hope to hear from your soon and thank you in advance.

Hello @MrSazo,

I'd personally use Substance 3D Designer and the node Normal to Height. If you rather use Substance Painter, here's a .SBSAR file that contains the Normal to Height node.

Best regards

You can drag & drop the shared resource directly in the layer stack.

Cyril, sorry for what may be a stupid question, but how exactly does this graph work? I dragged the sbsar onto the top of the layer stack, what should I do next to get a height map and export it?
