The material picker is a great tool, but it sorely lacks an option (or alternate picker) that restricts it to a single channel.
Use case : when handpainting a texture, I often find myself wanting to pick color from the base color channel. Yet the material picker will also activate a couple other channels based on whatever is underneath and if I don't want to use these, I need to turn them off maually.

To be more precise, what I'm thinking of here is an equivalent of the Photoshop eyedropper. A tool with a modifier key shortcut similar to the Alt-click in Photoshop that can be called without ditching your active brush, but instead of picking either a full material or whatever is on screen (which often enough would be the lit surface), it could be made to pick color from a specific channel (base color is the one I see as the most useful, but I could also imagine someone hand-painting height or opacity)
