Problem stamping alpha

I'm having a problem stamping a certain piece of geometry with an alpha. I can drag across the surface of it with the brush and it paints the alpha with spacing but it won't stamp with a single-click.

I'm using the exact same settings on the paintbrush on other pieces of geometry with the exact same alpha and it works correctly. What is it about this one piece of geometry that makes it not work?
