"Failed to save updated preset"

New Here ,
Dec 26, 2022 Dec 26, 2022

Hello,

I tried to save an export preset and got this message :

  • [Library agent] Failed to save updated preset 'Blender (Principled BSDF)': The default library 'starter_assets' is only available in read mode because you don't have write permission on it.

I tried starting Painter in admin mode, that didn't help. I understand what the message says, but really don't understand how it's possible that I don't have "write permission" on my own computer...

Any idea ?

I'm on Windows 11

Substance 3D Painter, version 8.2.0
Build 1987 - 772e8c568b0b05753504c17acf6c5f950b1c5093

Thanks a lot,

have a great holiday

Hi @MaxDet, hi @Shu Wei,

Thanks for the question.

The Blender (Principled BSDF) is a preset from the Starter assets library, meaning it is native to Substance 3D Painter. Those aren't directly editable or removable.

In order to make some changes on a native export preset, you'll have first to duplicate it (RMB>Duplicate). This way, you'll be able to edit the preset and save the changes.

Best regards,

Hi Cyril,

Same here with Intel Mac. It's not allow drag & drop and save setting, only duplicate and rename works 😞

Thanks.

I meant it won't allow to do anything to the duplicates except rename, remove channels.

Hi @Ferryman24042638phgh,

Just to be clear, you can duplicate the default presets, but then you're not able to edit them, that's correct? Is something specific written in the log (Windows > View > Log)? Are you still able to create an entirely new preset?

Let me know.

I have been in substance for years and never seen this. I duplicate an export templete and I am the "save settings" button remains greyed out so I am unabe to save any changes that I make to the templete. Please let me know how to fix this, I have a job to do and this is putting up a major road block.

This is the error in the log. [Library agent] Failed to save updated preset 'Blender (Principled BSDF)': The default library 'starter_assets' is only available in read mode because you don't have write permission on it.
