should layer blend modes work similarly to photoshop with basecolour?

Participant ,

Hi

I have a basic white square on a layer, and no matter which overlay mode i use (on Base color)  the square just stays white and doesnt seem to blend with the layers beneath it (namely, overlay or softlight - as would happen in photoshop).  Am i doing something wrong or does painter not work like this?

thanks for your help!

Nick

**EDIT** oh! so it seems if i put that layer in a folder and mark the folder as overlay it works!  Is that how it should work? Seems a little odd

Hello Nickh,

The Blending modes from Substance Painter should mostly behave as the ones from Photoshop, but we have a different management of color spaces that can ends up with slight differences.

With that being said, considering Substance 3D Painter handles several channels per layer (Base Color, Normal, Roughness, etc.), you'll have to make sure the proper Blending mode is set for the proper channel.

The result can be different with a group containing the layer, because the group also has a Blending mode which prevails on the layer itself. Could you send me screenshots of the layer in and out of the group, so I can have a better view on the issue you're facing?

Best regards,
