Troubleshooting auto UV unwrap

Another newbie post from me, I really appreciate the help and support thus far! I'm wondering what is going wrong with the auto unwrap - see the attached screenshot of my UVs with a checker generator. This is a hi-res mesh from 3D scan but it has been repaired in several programs and the normals should all be facing the right way, etc.

Is there a way to customise the auto unwrap options? Even though I'm using triplanar projection, this is still causing issues with materials. Or should I give up and manually unwrap the model in another program like ZBrush? Thanks again for any suggestions!

Thank you! I tried that but unfortunately in this case I realized the geometry of this model auto unwrap (it's a 3D scan shell that has been offset so has connected inner and outer faces), but I was able to get great results by separating the original and the offset shell in ZBrush and then importing them as separate meshes. Great info to know for the future though, thanks again!

Hi @sophiebk,

Thanks for the question.

The auto UV Unwrapping from Substance 3D Painter has many options for you to tweak. My guess on your issue is that the Unwrap sequence options are set to generate only missing data and your mesh probably already has some random UVs, so you'll need to switch the options to Recompute all.
